Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 11, 2026 · Last updated: September 11, 2026

Alien Campfire LLC (“Alien Campfire,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) makes video games and runs the websites aliencampfire.com and purplemarsgame.com (together, the “Sites”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

We keep this simple on purpose: we are a small independent game studio, we do not track you across the web, we do not set advertising cookies, and we do not sell your personal information.

1. Who we are

Alien Campfire LLC is a single-member limited liability company based in Washington State, USA. For any privacy question or request, contact us at aliencampfirellc@gmail.com.

For the purposes of data-protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR, Alien Campfire LLC is the “data controller” for personal information collected through the Sites.

2. What we collect

We collect very little. Specifically:

a. Email address — only if you choose to subscribe.

If you sign up for our mailing list (for example, to be notified about Purple Mars™), we store:

  • the email address you typed;
  • whether your subscription is pending, confirmed, or unsubscribed;
  • the date and time you signed up, confirmed, and — if you do — unsubscribed;
  • the IP address the signup came from; and
  • two random tokens that make your confirmation and unsubscribe links work.

We use double opt-in: after you submit the form, nothing is added to the list until you click the confirmation link we email you. The IP address and timestamps are our record that the subscription was genuinely requested — they protect you from being signed up by someone else, and they are not used to profile you or track you around the web.

b. Basic server logs.

Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information when you visit — such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the date and time. These logs exist for security, troubleshooting, and keeping the Sites running. We do not use them to build profiles of you.

c. That’s it.

  • We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • We do not run third-party analytics that profile you — we currently run no analytics at all.
  • We do not knowingly collect any “special category” / sensitive personal data.

If we add privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics in the future, we will update this policy before doing so.

3. Cookies

The Sites set no cookies. Not advertising cookies, not analytics cookies, not functional ones — there is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. The mailing-list form works with an ordinary form submission and stores nothing in your browser.

One thing worth naming: the Purple Mars™ trailer on our home page is a click-to-load embed. Until you actually press play, the page loads only an image stored on our own server, and YouTube is never contacted. If you do press play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com and YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that playback. If you never press play, no third party sees your visit at all.

4. How we use your information

We use the limited information above only to:

  • send you the updates you subscribed to, and nothing else;
  • confirm that a subscription request was genuine;
  • operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Sites;
  • respond to messages you send us; and
  • comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

5. Legal bases (for visitors in the EU / UK)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent — for sending you mailing-list emails. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interests — for keeping the Sites secure and operational (server logs), and for keeping a record that a subscription was confirmed, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.

6. Who we share it with

Almost nobody. We run the mailing list ourselves: subscriber email addresses are stored in our own database on our own hosting account, and are not handed to a newsletter company, a marketing platform, or an advertising network.

That leaves one service provider:

  • DreamHost — our website and email host. DreamHost stores the Sites, the subscriber database, and standard server logs, and delivers the mail we send. DreamHost acts on our instructions and has its own privacy policy governing how it operates as a provider.

If we ever move to a third-party newsletter service, we will name it here before your address is sent to it.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our legal rights, or in connection with a sale or transfer of the business — but we are not in the business of sharing your data, and we never sell it.

7. Where your data is processed

We operate from the United States, and our service provider stores and processes information in the United States. If you access the Sites from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be processed in the U.S., where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

8. How long we keep it

  • Confirmed mailing-list subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Unconfirmed signups: if you never click the confirmation link, the record is deleted within 30 days.
  • Unsubscribes: when you unsubscribe, we keep your address flagged as unsubscribed so that a later form submission can’t quietly put you back on the list. Ask us to delete it outright and we will.
  • Server logs: retained only as long as our hosting provider’s normal log-retention period, then discarded.

9. Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send, or by contacting us. We will honor that promptly.

Depending on where you live — for example, under the EU/UK GDPR, or the California and Washington privacy laws — you may also have the right to:

  • request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to or restrict certain processing; and
  • not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To make any of these requests, email us at aliencampfirellc@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We do not sell personal information, so there is no “sale” for you to opt out of.

10. Children’s privacy

The Sites are not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Our games

Our game Purple Mars™ is an arcade game that stores your high scores locally on your own device. The game itself does not collect, transmit, or sell personal information to us. Note that the store platforms through which you obtain or play the game — such as the Meta Horizon Store or Steam — collect and process data under their own privacy policies, which govern your account, purchases, and platform activity. We encourage you to review those policies.

12. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information we hold: the Sites are served over HTTPS, the subscriber database is reachable only with credentials restricted to our own hosting, those credentials are stored outside the public web directory and outside version control, and confirmation and unsubscribe links use long random tokens rather than anything guessable. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to limit what we collect in the first place.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we’ll make the update reasonably prominent on the Sites. Your continued use of the Sites after an update means you accept the revised policy.
